Movie Review

What are the requirements for an action movie to be a good one in the genre? Evidently: a lot of action; a good screenplay; swift tempo: convincing set and sound affects to match….. oh, and of course the camera movement….high speed, with slow motion “interjections” to magnify the drama of a sequence. ‘Carter’ lives up to all those criteria, and for added value it also has an intelligent script, and it terribly close to living up to the standards of a Chirstopher Nolan film, which is a tall order. Jung Byung-gil has managed to put together a thriller with loads of action, special effects, and in particular the characteristic hypnotic touch of Asian action movies, which is always engaging.

It moves at a fast tempo, very fast indeed, almost in line with the speed of a video game, with spectacular sequences, chases, bing bang boom scenes… Could we ask for more of a thriller action movie? It is not like ‘Carter’ is the movie that first came up with this approach in the genre, but it definitely does know how play with the various aspects, and offers us an excellent piece of entertainment. It actually exceeds our expectations.

It makes good use of CGI and new technologies in photography. As for the storyline, it is good, and the narrative does well in including interesting flashback sequences.

A total adrenaline rush for this Friday on Netflix.

Our Opinion

A really entertaining watch that despite not inventing anything new in the genre, lives up to the most demanding action fans’ requirements. We definitely recommend it.

  • At the very end is a train going over a bridge with carter and his family and there’s an explosion on the bridge in front of the train and it ends. What happened, is there a part 2, doesn’t seem they could cross the bridge.
