The Glorias is an authentic vehicle for Julianne Moore to shine and a ground-breaking vehicle for Julie Taymor, who achieves, thanks to a great production, a good film that is totally biased and quite patently so.

Storyline

Biopic of the feminist leader Gloria Steinem, who has a difficult childhood and who, after freeing herself from conventionalisms, becomes one of the main leaders of the feminist movement in the United States.

Movie Review

It’s fine if you’re clear about what you’re going to see: a full-throated defense of the feminist movement through one of its most legendary figures: Gloria Steinem. There are no double readings: it is a manifestation of the virtues of this woman, narrated in an efficient and even brilliant way that shows us (as is usually the case with this kind of work) a reality of a single vision without any intention of controversy. A movie that’s very good and very bad of a univocal and simplistic vision.

But the film is very good, especially on the level of its production. Technically, it is excellent and Julianne Moore enjoys this role with which she really stands out and which will surely be applauded by many: she has strength, charisma and everything that the film makes us think, in a simple and not far-fetched script about a very fashionable reality.

From this point of view, the film takes advantage of everything it can to reach a large audience and to present simple and indoctrinating ideas that, whether they are good or bad (we won’t get involved) make the film one “to show in school” and give us a life lesson. And, I insist: it also has its artistic virtuosities and caprices, but they are overshadowed by the message, which seems to possess every scene like a cyclone.

Our Opinion

Three stars for this film that makes controversy the lack of controversy because everything here is so clear that it is overwhelming. We will not argue about that here, but the film itself is entertaining and predictable at the same time, technically brilliant and it has a script … it is a typical biopic in the form of a super-production.
