Burn the House Down” is a Japanese series directed by Yûichirô Hirakawa. Starring Mei Nagano and Kyoka Suzuki, it is based on the manga by Moyashi Fujisawa.

“Burn the House Down” is an intriguing series that takes us into the life of Anzu, a girl whose life and family were shattered in a fire. Who caused it? Suspicions lead her to become the housekeeper for a well-known model, an old friend of the family with a mysterious past.

About the Series

Eight episodes of mystery unfold slowly, where character development takes precedence over the plot itself. It is a series about the relationships between the characters, their evolution, and how the past ultimately influences everything.

The story knows how to grow within itself and not get consumed by the fire of the initial sequences. As is typical in Japanese cinema, it is metaphorical and beautiful at its core. It is not the dark thriller one might expect from the introduction; instead, it is a more beautiful and less ominous story, almost black and white.

Elegant as expected in its aesthetics, meticulously crafted in the sets, as well as in the pacing, which sets it apart from a typical Hollywood thriller.

It is also romantic and a series about the search for innocence, which was burned in a fire, about two sisters searching, above all, for the joy of living.

“Burn the House Down” is not the sad and gloomy series one might imagine from its presentation; it is joyful, vibrant, and carries a clear message of hope that emerges from darkness, ashes, and the past.

It is a series about appearances, deception, falsehood, but also a series about clarity and, above all, about the truth.
