Shanty Town is a Nigerian series that arrives on Netflix to offer us (a little discouraging) vision that, we warn you, will not please everyone: a sordid vision of a shanty town, prostitution, smuggling, injustice, violence and the cruel reality lived in it.

This is a tough series about conflicts dealt with in a realistic way, lots of hand-held camera and which delves into the conflicts and most dramatic aspects of the situation.

This isn´t a blockbuster nor does it aspire to be one, it is a series that shows a reality that is raw, realistic and discouraging.

It does have a touch of beauty in its images, above all, in the characters with their most innocent humanity.

Storyline

A group of courtesans attempts to escape the grasp of a notorious kingpin – but political corruption and blood ties make freedom a near-impossible goal.

Inem returns to Shanty Town as Jackie makes her getaway. Shalewa meets a charming stranger at the bar and Scar is given a sinister political agenda.

Episode 3

Scar finds himself precariously caught between two powerful political entities. Shalewa wakes up to a surprise confrontation.

Episode 4

Inem goes to work at the club — where she catches the eye of a dangerous guest. Scar asks Shalewa to do something for him to clear her debt.

Episode 5

Femi asks Shalewa on a date. As the case grows more dangerous, an undercover team attempts to trace Shanty Town’s missing women. But Scar sniffs a rat.

Episode 6

Amanda confronts Ene about Jackie’s voicemail. But as truths are revealed and simmering rivalries come to a head, Shalewa finds herself in grave danger.
