Sweet Magnolias is a Netflix series created by Sheryl J. Anderson, and starring JoAnna Garcia, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley.

Sweet Magnolias is a series that embodies the melodramatic spirit of television and the charm of small, familiar American towns.

As one critic put it, it is a litany of romantic clichés, while for others (the fans), it is a wonderfully enchanting series that touches the heart.

Sheryl J. Anderson’s book series is faithfully reflected in the show (created by the author herself), and it caters to a specific audience by delivering what they desire: a classic, romantic, and deeply familial series that still manages to infuse a touch of modernity into its characters, all within the traditional framework of afternoon television production.

The series achieves a balanced ensemble narrative, where the true protagonist is the community, the environment in which these three women play a significant role.

Do not expect aesthetic surprises or characters that transcend the boundaries of space and time. It is a “classic” series, where we all feel comfortable and relax in the familiar setting we know.

Maddie, Helen, and Dana have challenging lives, much like everyone else, and they know how to bring their characters to life through this relatable, simple script that mostly speaks of good intentions.

And in this cruel world, that’s not a bad thing.

So, enjoy it if you wish.
