"Top Boy" (2011 - 2023) | The Fifth and Final Season Now on Netflix

Top Boy is a British crime drama series created and written by Ronan Bennett. A series that has stood the test of time, since its release in 2011. It has been dropped , then recovered, and ultimately saved.

Set in the fictional Summerhouse estate in the London Borough of Hackney it tells the stories focuses on two drug dealers, Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane Robinson), along with others involved with drug dealing and gang violence in London. It goes beyond their business travails, and invites us into their lives where nothing is easy.

The series was originally broadcast on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2013, to then be revived by Netflix in 2019 were it has since aired two more seasons (all in all three seasons produced for Netflix). They were preceded (albeit, later added) by two seasons under the title ‘Top Boy Summer House‘ – also streaming on the platform now. Yes, it is a labyrinthine endeavor to figure out – space time continuum was completely ignored by our favorite streaming service, but they did not leave us down and added every single season.

But now we have put the pieces of the puzzle together, and can conclude that this is one good series, once you realize which season to see first. It is gritty, it is violent, it is humane, it is dramatic, and more importantly it counts of spectacular performances, and it allows us to follow the the characters throughout the years, their evolution (which is always interesting) – in other words, it engages us in their stories, thanks to a great screenplay – and we are now given a final season.

This final season is in great part thanks to the Drake, yes the rapper, as he has executive produced it together with the prior two installments. It was in 2017 that he decided to resurrect the series, and to great avail, as it has been an incredible success.

Get ready to be told a gripping story that you will most likely never forget.
