Graveyard Rats is the second chapter in Guillermo del Toro‘s horror series Cabinet of Curiosities. It is directed by Vincenzo Natali and stars David Hewlett.
Synopsis
A sneaky cemetery caretaker who moonlights as a grave robber finds himself at odds with the graveyard’s rat population. He will find plenty of loot, but the rats have plans of their own.
About this Chapter
This is a story that stands out in its production and, as is the case in the first episode, the extremely well elaborated atmospherics. It takes us to another time, and introduces us to an interesting character that is well defined. It is gothic (of the literary kind) and it tells a good story.
In the short amount of time the story is well narrated, it develops step by step, and manages to provide what is expected from it, namely to tell as much as possible, that the director proves his savvy, and offer us, the viewers, an episode with its own style.
Graveyard Rats might seem like an anecdotal horror story, but it counts on really good production that makes it stand out.
