Di you love Nicolas Cage when you were kids? Were you one of those who had a poster of him in your room because he was so awesome, but deep inside you thought he would never win an Oscar? You were wrong, just like I was wrong about Renfield thinking it was doomed to be a bad movie.
Not at all. It’s not excellent, but it’s hilarious, full of fights, special effects and it knows how to take nothing seriously, just like good old Nicolas Cage does with his career.

Movie Review
We know that the mere presence of Nicolas Cage is sufficient to fill all our moviegoing fantasies, but Renfield also happens to be very funny. It’s punkish and consciously stupid and with the enough number of heads exploding to, thanks to its frenetic pace, allowed you to forget real problems for a while so it’s not your head the one that explodes overthinking about the complexities of the script and the multilevel of its intertextuality, etc.
It’s nice and with an actor who loves playing fool in a film designed exclusively to do this in a role in which, on top of that, he is clearly enjoying himself.
The result is a blunder for everyone, but blunders taste better, at least for some of us, seasoned with a good production, decent effects, and a photography, by the way, quite elaborate.
Renfield is, above all, a film that knows how to transmit good vibes. Some fine wickedness, not the cringy one but the one that you get laughing and appreciating the wit of the rascal for having eaten a good cake on the sly with, of course, our favorite actor (Nicolas Cage, who else).
Enjoy it because it is very, very funny.

Is it time for a second Oscar for Nicolas Cage? He probably won’t get it yet, but all his fans are hoping that Leaving Las Vegas 2 will come, just as a sequel as impossible as Gladiator has (apparently) arrived.
