Miss Shampoo is a movie written and directed by Giddens Ko starring Vivian Sung. With Hong Yu Hong, Kai Ko, Wei-min Ying, and Tsai Chang-Hsien.

You know those movies that manage to defy the norm? “Miss Shampoo” is one of those films that, in its strange way, finds a different sense of humor—sometimes outrageous, yet charming and even romantic.

It’s a romantic comedy that actually has a lot of wit.

We’re telling you from the start: we highly recommend it.

Plot

Amidst a brawl, a gangster seeks refuge in a hair salon. The hairstylist helps him out, and the next day, the entire gang shows up at the salon, leading to a bizarre haircut for the gangster and a love story in the making.

About the film

Extremely entertaining, it takes us beyond a simple smile with its bold and occasionally surreal brand of humor. It’s a comedy about bad, really bad, guys getting their hair cut to feel even tougher. In this mix, love comes into the picture, along with hilarious dialogues that are refreshing, original, and even charming.

More than having a meticulously crafted script, this film stands out for its excellent execution—through well-planned sequences, dialogue-driven scenes, and a sense of humor that dares to go beyond the established conventions. After all, isn’t comedy meant to break free from the norm and disrupt the predictability of structure?

“Miss Shampoo” plays with predictability and challenges stereotypes while, at the same time, adhering to all of them. The gangsters act like children while still engaging in various atrocities: we can’t help but laugh and forget about the conventional in this film that, if you embrace its surrealistic sense of humor, will captivate you with its dialogues and its cheeky way of doing things.

Our Opinion

It may not be the comedy of the year, and it won’t appeal to everyone. If you believe that comedies should educate society about good manners, then steer clear.

But if you’re one of those peculiar individuals who believe that comedies are meant to shake us out of predictability and make us laugh—and if, deep down, you’re mentally sound—then give it a watch; it’s definitely worth it.
